  • Medford resident Chris Parnell received the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association assistant coach of the year award for 2012-13.
    It was presented during a ceremony at Autzen Stadium on Saturday.
    Parnell was the defensive backs coach and coordinator of special teams for the Crater High football team. He also assisted as a sprint coach during track season.
    Parnell, who now coaches at McLaughlin Middle School, spent eight years coaching at Crater. Prior to that, he helped coach at North Medford High in football and girls basketball for 15 seasons after beginning his career as a football assistant at Henley.
