Felony Arrests

Drugs — Joshua Steven Ware, 30, no known address. Medford police on Sunday arrested Ware on charges of possession of methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a weapon. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on $35,000 bail.

Fire calls

A series of structure and grass fires kept emergency responders busy Sunday afternoon.

The most serious blaze consumed an uninhabited barn at around 3:30 p.m. near milepost 16 on Highway 239.

The barn was a total loss, and a small amount of hay went up in flames. No animals or humans were injured as the fire also consumed a half-acre of grass, before it began nipping at a second barn, said Capt. Mike Kuntz of the Applegate Fire District.

"The second barn sustained only minor damage," Kuntz said, adding the cause remains under investigation.

Three engines, four water tenders and 18 personnel responded to the fire between the towns of Applegate and Provolt, he said.

Fire District No. 3 crews responded to a second structure fire around the same time that damaged a shed near McLaughlin Road in Central Point. That fire also was quickly contained and crews were mopping up the scene by 5 p.m., officials said. A small grass fire also consumed about an acre-and-a-half in the Eagle Point area near White Oak Ranch late Sunday afternoon. Crews from District No. 3 quickly contained the blaze.

Vehicle accidents

Two vehicles crashed near Lakeview Drive and Highway 140 in White City. The accident stopped traffic briefly Sunday afternoon while rescue crews removed two disabled vehicles. One unnamed victim was transported to an area hospital. Three vehicles were involved in a noninjury accident in the 7500 block of Highway 238 outside Jacksonville. One lane of traffic was blocked for about an hour until tow trucks could clear the way.
