  • Ardis A. Smith earned her wings Monday, June 3, 2013 at home with family at her side, 33 days shy of her 100th birthday. She was born July 6, 1913 in Grants Pass, Ore. to John and Susie Casad who preceded her in death.
    Moving from the small town of Holland, Ore. to Central Point, Ore. after helping to care for her siblings, Ardis spent a short time in Klamath Falls, Ore. working on a ranch, then moved back to the Rogue Valley. Other jobs included JCPennys, Dairy Freeze where she was part owner, then retiring from Far East restaurant where she was a hostess for 20 years. Ardis kept herself busy gardening, canning, or sewing and enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk, visiting at yearly family reunions, and going for drives around the Rogue Valley. Ardis was first married to Thomas McFadden in 1937, who preceded her in death and together they had Eugene McFadden. They were divorced and she then married Thomas Smith in 1946, who also preceded her in death, together they had Darrel Smith. Both sons reside in Central Point, Ore.
    She is also survived by four granddaughters, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and one more on the way. Surviving siblings are Kay Casad of California, Dorothy Garris of Oregon, and Barbara (Bobbie) Sims of Washington. She was preceded in death by siblings, Roland Casad of Arizona, Joe (Doc) Casad of Oregon, and Johnny Casad also of Oregon.
