January 29, 1933 - May 31, 2013

Former resident Wilma (Simmons) Nordman passed away Friday, May 31, 2013 at age 80 from complications of colon cancer.

Wilma was born in Nyssa, Ore. to Theodore and Elsie (Elliot) Simmons.

Until the age of 12, Wilma was raised with her two brothers Jim and Tom at Ocean Park, (now Beverely Beach State Park), where her parents operated a store and 15 cabin rentals. When the state took over the property to build Hwy 101, the family moved to Grants Pass where Wilma completed her education and went on to work at local hospitals as a nurse's aide.

On November 10, 1973, Wilma married former Vietnam vet Steve Nordman. They moved to Prospect where Steve worked for the state highway department. Much time was spent hunting, fishing, and exploring the back country and entertaining the many nieces and nephews. They then became long haul truck drivers and traveled the country together. In later years Steve and Wilma settled down in the Roseburg/Winston area where they enjoyed friends and family until Steve's death on May 28, 2012.

Wilma also enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, cooking, and making homemade treats for the kids such as chocolate waffles and most remembered by family, green Christmas wreaths. She thoroughly enjoyed having children around teaching them, along with her granddaughters, the small pleasures of life.

Wilma is survived by her brother, Tom; son, Ted; two granddaughters, Alisha and Lyndsy; and many nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

A celebration of life is to be announced at a later time.
