North Medford to host softball celebration Monday

A celebration to honor the back-to-back Class 6A softball state champions at North Medford High has been set for 7 p.m. Monday at the Black Tornado's softball field.

The entire community is invited, with a dessert reception to follow the festivities.

North Medford secured its seventh state title last Saturday when it edged Glencoe, 2-1 in eight innings.

Local baseball trio chosen for Reser's All-Star Series

Ashland's Jamie Flynn, Crater's Evan Erskine and North Medford's Taylor Raff have been selected to play as members of the South team in the Reser's All-Star Series.

The annual event pits Oregon's top Class 6A and 5A senior high school baseball players from the greater Portland area (North team) against their counterparts from the rest of the state.

The three-game series is scheduled for June 15-16 at Goss Stadium on the Oregon State campus in Corvallis. The teams will meet in a noon doubleheader on June 15 and in a single-game starting at 11 a.m. on June 16.

South's Garcia, Alexander tabbed for Les Schwab Bowl

South Medford seniors Adrian Garcia and Pat Alexander have been chosen to take the field as members of the South team for the 66th Les Schwab Bowl, slated June 22 at Hillsboro Stadium.

Garcia is listed as a defensive back but will likely also play as a receiver, while Alexander is listed as a linebacker.

Head coach of the South team is Sheldon's Lane Johnson. His assistants are Craig Ruecker (Tigard), John Mannion (Silverton), Thurman Bell (Roseburg), Jay Minyard (Sprague) and Nathan Stanley (Redmond).

The annual game pits the top high school seniors at the 6A and 5A levels against one another and proceeds benefit the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association general scholarship fund as well as the 6A and 5A schools.
