A commercial truck hauling energy drinks took a curve too fast coming down from the Siskiyou Pass and overturned Monday night, blocking the northbound lane of Interstate 5 for hours.
The driver, Paul Gurinder, 28, of Rancho Cordova, Calif., was listed in good condition at Providence Medford Medical Center on Tuesday. Oregon State Police cited him for reckless driving.
At about 7:30 p.m. Monday, Gurinder lost control near mile 7 of a 2005 Freightliner truck pulling a semitrailer. The truck and trailer overturned, striking a concrete barrier before coming to rest in the middle of the northbound lanes.
Crews from Oregon Department of Transportation and local fire departments responded to the crash. One freeway lane reopened about three hours after removal of the truck and cleanup of a diesel spill. Crews worked through the night to remove spilled pallets of energy drinks from the truck, officials said.
