Miners sweep Pilots in Legion A doubleheader

ASHLAND — The Grants Pass Miners held the Ashland Pilots to five hits on the day to sweep an American Legion A doubleheader at North Mountain Park on Tuesday.

The Miners won the first game 11-4 and the second game 8-0.

In Game 1, Ashland's Jose Perez was 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base to lead the Pilots, who were playing their first two games of the season. Also for Ashland, Matt Flynn had a two-run single in the seventh.

McKinnon Bennett went 3-for-3 and scored four runs to lead the Miners.

In the second game, James Chastain and Kevin Olmstead pitched a combined one-hitter for the Miners. Ty Mullholland's single was the only hit for the Pilots.

Ashland freshman-to-be Christopher Buckley was impressive in his pitching debut, fanning five in 22/3 innings.

CRATER LAKE 11, MEDFORD MUSTANGS 10 — At Klamath Falls, Charlie Walker rapped four hits for Medford in a losing effort to the Klamath Falls senior Babe Ruth squad.

Crater Lake led 8-0 before the Mustangs (2-4) scored seven runs on six hits in the fifth inning. Bryce Rogan collected two hits in the frame, including a two-run single to complete the rally.

Taylor Raff and Rogan each had three hits for the Mustangs.
