1939 - 2013
Jess R. Rose, 74, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013 at home in Central Point, Ore. He was born in Oakland, Calif. He attended Oakland High School for a short time, enlisted in the Marines in 1956, served three years, and received Honorable Discharge. He relocated to Medford in 1965, met Phyllis Moore, and they were married in 1968. He became a father to her five young boys and raised them as his own. They were married for 35 years; Phyllis passed away in 2003.
Jess worked at different jobs in the valley, but decided to go back to school to become a heavy-equipment operator. He started working for the City of Medford in 1976, worked for 24 years, retiring in 2000. Me met a lot of good men there and some became lifelong friends. He also was a long-time volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul as operational manager.
In 2004, he married Lynn Nave, and gained two more sons. The families had known each other for many years. Jess loved to golf and fish, and after marrying Lynn, took up bowling and dancing again. They traveled in their motorhome to watch their sons play in softball tournaments, and he loved to go to Seven Feathers and other nearby casinos just to have a little fun. His health started failing in 2009, and in the end, his heart just gave up.
Jess was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; mother and stepfather, Beatrice and William Straub; sister, Diane; and son, Timothy. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; brother, Ron Rose (Norma); sons, Mike Moore (Joie), Phil Moore (Tiff), David Moore, and Paul Moore; stepsons, Rich Nave (Jac), and Terry Nave (JoAnne); nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2013, at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, Medford, Ore.
