Oregon motorists can now show electronic proof of their car insurance, either on a smartphone or other mobile device, if they are pulled over by police.
HB 2107, which was signed into law by Gov. John Kitzhaber in May, provided that option. Drivers should arrange to receive the electronic copies with their insurance companies.
Under the new law, police do not have the right to search for additional information on the mobile device, Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services said in a news release. The electronic copy may not be valid in other states.
