Saturday's card has two stakes races — The Daily Courier Inaugural Handicap for thoroughbreds and the Mail Tribune Stakes for quarter horses.

Veteran racing secretary Shorty Martin has installed Enterprise Zone as the 2-1 favorite in the 51/2-furlong $2,800 Inaugural. Enterprise Zone comes off a win at the recent fair meet in Union and has four wins, a second and two thirds in his last seven outs.

In the $3,400 Mail Tribune Stakes going 350-yards, the eight-year old Snip N Dale is the listed top choice in the six-horse field. Snip N Dale holds the GPD track record at 350-yards (17.32).

Tag Wotherspoon returns as GPD director of marketing and communications after a one-year hiatus.

Wotherspoon has two promotions scheduled the opening weekend and is reinstituting a popular contest held in the past.

On Saturday, fans will receive a free Dutch Bros beverage coupon by placing a bet on the two races — the second and sixth — sponsored by the Grants Pass-based coffee company.

On Father's Day Sunday, all dads will be admitted free.

The "Win, Place and Show Contest" gives away $200 in cash each race day.

Bettors need to write their name and hometown on the back of a losing ticket and drop it in the box corresponding with the number of the horse they think will win the seventh race. If the horse picked finishes first, second or third, you are automatically entered in the daily drawing to win $100, $60 or $40. Entries must be turned in prior to the seventh race. You must be present to win an be at least 18-years old.

Last year's leading jockey Tim Neal returns but won't be riding this season.

Neal, who retired as a jockey, had been galloping horses at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington, Ky. The 45-year old Neal rode at GPD for 24 years and it was his first riding title.

Neal will be the clerk of scales and part of the gate crew.

Three quarter horse trials will be held Sunday for the Firecracker Futurity on the fourth of July.

The 21-horse field of 2-year-olds will feature Pot of Gold Futurity winner Eagle B Gone and third-place finisher Avatarr.
