A Christian man, Sherman Eugene Albertson, 91, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 8, 2013, surrounded by
Born June 28, 1921, son of Sherman C. Albertson and Zona Simpson, Sherm grew up in Nowata, Okla., where he graduated and went to college on a football scholarship. In 1942, Sherm joined the military and served as glider pilot and mechanic in WWII. He served and flew at Normandy in Southern France, Rhineland, Germany and Central Europe until the war was ended in 1945. Sherm was thanked in the newspapers and was proudly decorated, earning the EAME Theater Ribbon, a Silver Service Star, a Bronze Service Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, and a Distinguished Unit Badge as an Aviation Cadet.
A quiet, contemplative, and considerate man, Sherman married Marilyn Edmond in 1949 and fathered three children; Linda, his number one girl, Deborah ("Deb Deb") his spit and image, and Michael, his only son and best golfing buddy. A big lover of the outdoors, Sherm loved to fish, hunt, and golf, and made his career as a roofer at Ekerson Roofing here in Southern Oregon. After losing Marilyn to cancer, Sherman married Jean in 1974 who brought six girls to the marriage; Yvonne, Deborah, Patricia, Darlene, Toni, and Cheryl. Jean remained the love of his life and looks forward to reuniting with her husband in Heaven. Together, Sherm and Jean had nine children, over 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and one more on the way. Sherman, a good father and a kind husband, lead a long, full life and will be truly, truly missed.
A service for Sherm will be at the Eagle Point Veteran's Cemetery, Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.
