Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center has begun renovating the hospital's Francis Cheney Family Place, which provides affordable lodging and solace to patients and their families based on availability and financial need, according to a news release from Asante.
The renovations, which began June 10, are being paid for by community donations. So far, $500,000 has been raised, including $200,000 from the Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Over the next five years, $2 million will be needed to complete the project and increase endowments for Cheney Place and its counterpart in Grants Pass, The Family House, the hospital said.
The project will include a new kitchen, dining area and bathrooms with handicap access. The facility also will receive new flooring, beds and bedding, window coverings, lighting, furniture, children's books and toys, computer stations and flat-screen TVs.
The renovation will include sustainable materials that meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards, including nontoxic paint and flooring, Asante said.
Construction will be done in two phases. From June to August, eight of the 15 rooms will be closed for renovations. From August to September, the entire facility will be closed.
Cheney Place staff will help guests make alternative arrangements when the facility is full or closed, the hospital said.
