FAIRFIELD 3, MEDFORD 1 — Catcher Carter Glick drove in the first run for Medford with a second-inning single, but Fairfield pitcher Troy Nixon was solid after that as the Expos earned their fourth win over the Mustangs in five tries this season.
Nixon allowed eight hits and struck out four without a walk in a complete-game effort that required just 85 pitches.
Medford (5-5) jumped out in front when Daniel Seus reached on a bunt single, advanced to second on a throwing error and scored on Glick's clutch two-out poke to left-center.
Fairfield took advantage of a Medford throwing error to tie the game in the fifth, then scored the go-ahead run in the eighth off reliever Colton Westfall. Miko Faulstich tripled to deep right to drive in Garlin Webster from first.
Westfall (1-1) struck out four in 21/3 innings against the Expos, who were hitless through the first four innings against Medford starter Charlie Walker.
Fairfield added an unearned insurance run in the ninth.
Medford hosts Wilson of Portland on Wednesday at North Medford High School.
