Crash victims remain in serious condition

Two people seriously injured in a rollover crash near Shady Cove Monday afternoon remained hospitalized in critical condition, officials said.

Justin Karlan, 20, of Medford was ejected from a 2001 Honda Passport sport-utility vehicle during the crash on Highway 62 and was brought by helicopter to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. Another passenger, Timothy McCree, 15, of Shady Cove, was brought to the hospital by ambulance. Both were still in critical condition on Tuesday, Asante spokesman Grant Walker reported.

The SUV's driver, 20-year-old Colyn L. Shephard, and another passenger, 16-year-old Bryce Tepper, both of Medford, were treated and released, Walker said.

Police said the Honda traveled onto the shoulder for an unknown reason, then Shephard lost control of it and it rolled several times, coming to rest in a grassy field about 20 yards from the highway.

An Oregon State Police investigation into the crash that closed parts of Highway 62 for roughly four hours Monday afternoon continues.
