Cheryl Annette Valentine, 64, of Rogue River, Ore. passed away at home June 5, 2013 of cancer. Cheryl was born February 13, 1949 in Charlotte, N.C. to Lloyd and Elsie Ritch.
She attended college in Charlotte for one year, continuing her nursing education at Pierce College in Los Angeles, Calif. She began her 40-year nursing career in Los Angeles, working in ICU followed by 10 years in a trauma center, worked 11 years in hospice in Southern Oregon, and ended her last two years at Community Health Center.
She was on the Board of Directors of the Oregon State Hospice Association. She always furthered her education, finishing it up with a bachelor of science degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Oregon Health Science University in 2001.
She married Jim Valentine Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1985. Cheryl and Jim moved to Rogue River in 1987. She had many hobbies over the years. Among them was playing her violin and piano, raising Siberian Huskies and running her sled dogs, weaving, fly fishing, flying kites at the beach, and photography. She enjoyed traveling in her RV. Her favorite place was Yellowstone National Park.
Survivors include her husband, Jim; Jim's two children, Scott and Tracey, in Calif.; her brother, Russell Ritch, of Greenville S.C.; and her aunt, Catherine Boychuk, of Dallas, Texas.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013, at TouVelle State Park, Central Point, Ore. Arrangements by Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives, 541-476-3710.
