Dr. H.E. Morrison, a well-known and popular physician, and a resident of Medford for the past eight years, died yesterday evening at the Sacred Heart Hospital from an operation for appendicitis performed Wednesday (June 18, 1913). He had had appendicitis before and only a couple of days before the seizure, took calomel in an effort to prevent the operation. Surgeons found the operation had been too long delayed and gangrene had already set in.

This, and not the shock of the operation, is given as the cause of death.

Dr. Morrison was taken to the hospital Tuesday and Wednesday. The operation was decided upon at a consultation of physicians. Dr. Pickel was summoned and performed the operation. The latter wishes to correct the published report that he was with Dr. Morrison at the time he was stricken or knew anything about the case until half an hour before the operation.

Dr. Morrison was a native of Indiana and lived there before coming to Medford in 1904.

He leaves a widow, sister to A.H. Miller and daughter of Mrs. Walter Gore.

The Fats vs. Leans baseball game tomorrow afternoon at 5 o'clock will be ushered in by a footrace between two of the leanest leans, each of whom claims to be the speediest. A.S. Rosenbaum and P.J. O'Gara will do a hundred-yard marathon across the diamond, with a year's weather report wagered against the railroad time table as the prize and side bet. Rosey thinks he can guess the time of arrival trains more often than O'Gara can guess the weather, and that's the way it started. O'Gara says he does hit the weather once in a while, but that Rosey never is able to guess right on trains. As Rosey will do anything to help the railroad out, he will strain every nerve in its behalf, and this race alone is worth the price of admission.

Efforts are under way to match Westerlund and Withington for the fat sprinting championship and match the winner against the lean victor. There will be no extra charge for admission on account of these races.
