Young-Skaggs duo wins last three races

GRANTS PASS — Trainer Don Young and jockey Tad Skaggs teamed up to win the final three races — including the Southern Belle Stakes feature — during Saturday's eight-race schedule at Grants Pass Downs.

Skaggs, who was making his 2013 debut at the track, rode Colorful Tune to victory in the seventh race. He had been racing in Boise before returning to Grants Pass.

Colorful Tune paid $21 to win.

Leading jockey Troy Stillwell claimed two wins to give him eight total victories through three days of racing. Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa, who is second in wins with four, captured a pair of triumphs. He prevailed in the fifth race — the Miss Josephine County co-feature — and in the second race, which saw local horse Castle Pines finish first.

The 10-year-old horse, which is owned by Glory B Stables and trained by Grants Pass' Mary Boyle, has won 24 races and earned almost $98,000 in its career.

Racing resumes today with a post time of 1 p.m. Admission is free for all women.
