  • CENTRAL POINT — Dylan Pearce tossed a one-hitter through four innings in the opener as the Central Point Comets American Legion A squad swept the St. Mary's-Rogue River-Cascade Christian Wolfpack on Monday at Anhorn Field.
The Comets (8-2, 4-0 Area 4) needed just five innings to beat the Wolfpack 10-0 in the opener and picked up a 9-2 victory in the nightcap.
Pearce allowed a first-inning single and that was all until reliever Brady Roland pitched a perfect fifth inning for the Comets.
Central Point's Zach Lathrop went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
In the nightcap, Ty Fox went 4-for-4 with two triples, a double, three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Tyler Aplin hit his first home run of the season.

Ashland, which fell to 0-5, scored one run in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings, then took advantage of a throwing error and bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to go up 7-4 in the top of the ninth. Nick Sanderson, Tommy Hulick and Kyle Milgrim delivered back-to-back-to-back singles to start the ninth-inning rally.
In the bottom of the inning, the Miners tied the game on a two-run single by Jarid Norberg and won the game on a successful squeeze bunt with one out.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was rained out.
