  • First-time father Ricardo Alvarez said his daughter, Raely, is a fan of having her picture taken.
"She loves the camera," the 32-year-old Alvarez said. "Anytime she sees the camera she just smiles."
Perhaps fittingly, judges for the Mail Tribune's Cute Kids Photo Contest, which ran June 7-24, chose a photo of Raely as the winner from 121 submissions. The picture shows Raely, then 6 months old, sitting up in a field near Agate Lake.
"We do a routine trip out there to take the dogs to go play," Alvarez said. "I just set up the tripod and sat her up. That was one of 50 pictures I got that day."
Alvarez, a CT technician at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, said Raely is rarely without a smile.
"She's an extremely happy kid; very rarely in a bad mood."
    Other top finalists included:
    • "Cruz and Dada" by Melanie Haden
    • "Thomas" by Kristine Bevington
    • "Finger Lickin' Good" by Nicole Sylvester
The Peoples' Choice winner, chosen by online readers, was "Haylee turns 1" by Candace Tuttle.
