Watch as Boy Scout Troop 112 retires several American flags used by various organizations in Ashland.

According to the United States Flag Code, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” Boy Scout Troops are one of the few groups allowed to conduct this solemn ceremony. Most people have not witnessed this ceremony and the troop felt that the day before Independence Day would be an appropriate time to have it.

Troop 112 will be retiring several flags used by various organizations in Ashland. Meet at the Lithia Park lower fire ring above the Parks and Recreation office on Winburn Way, in Ashland at 7 p.m. to view the ceremony. Attendees should park in the parking area at Cotton Memorial Area or near the Parks and Recreation Building. For more information call scoutmaster John Engelhardt at 541-482-8222.
