Force Airman Mereena L. Anderson

Air Force Airman 1st Class Kendall J. Munson graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

Munson completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

He is the son of Michele and Malcolm Munson of Medford, and a 2009 graduate of North Medford High School.

Army Pvt. Jared M. Wolff has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, Wolff received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

He is the nephew of Jim Barnes of Lexington, Okla., and a 2008 graduate of South Medford High School.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Christopher S. Harvey, a 2011 graduate of Phoenix High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Harvey completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Navy Seaman Recruit Benjamin T. King, son of Heidi M. Thernell of Talent and Gerald J. King, of Gladstone, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, King completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

King is a 2011 graduate of Park Rose High School in Portland.

Army Pvt. Austin E. McAlmond has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo., which included basic military training and advanced individual training, or AIT.

During basic military training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons qualification, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army doctrine, history, principles and traditions.

During AIT, McAlmond completed the military police specialist course to acquire skills to provide combat area support, conduct battlefield circulation control, area security, prisoner of war operations, civilian internee operations, and law and order operations. He performed as a team member in support of battlefield operations, installation law and order operations and security of Army resources and installations. McAlmond, who has served in the military for eight years, is the grandson of Mike and Carolyn McAlmond of Medford, and a 2012 graduate of South Medford High School.


Air Force Airman Isaac Elliott graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

Elliott completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

He is the son of Jeffery and Leslie Elliott of Medford, and a 2012 graduate of South Medford High School.

Army Pfc. Martin M. Medina has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, Medina studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

He is the son of Vince and Kathy Medina of Eagle Point, and a 1995 graduate of Eagle Point High School.

Army Reserve Pvt. Jennifer K. Sweeney has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, Sweeney studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

She is the daughter of Susan Kester of Grandview, Mo., and granddaughter of Freda Nitchman of Medford.

He is the son of Louis and Brenda Farina of Eagle Point, and a 2012 graduate of Eagle Point High School.

Army Pfc. Alberto A. Duran-Espino has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, Duran-Espino received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

He is the son of Luciano Duran-Flores and Blanca Duran-Espino, both of Central Point. He is a 2009 graduate of Crater School of Business Innovation and Science, and he received an associate's degree in 2012 from Rogue Community College.
