  • Led by a stellar outing from Rogues pitcher Justin Jacome, Medford scored two late runs to take the first game of a three-game series against the Bend Elks with 2-0 win at Harry & David Field on Friday.
Jacome threw eight full innings, allowing only six hits to go with seven strikeouts in his second scoreless start for the Rogues. He has yet to issue a walk or surrender a run through 14 innings this season.
With a man on first and second in the eighth inning, Rogues designated hitter Kevin Davidson drove in the first run of the game with a single that brought home Joe Chavez. Third baseman Jared Casper would come in to score off an Elks error after an intentional walk put him on first.
Hector Lujan picked up his first save of the season for the Rogues, pitching the ninth inning and striking out two. Bend pitcher Michael Jordan took the loss for the Elks.
Chavez went 2-for-3 and Davidson 2-for-4.
With the win the Rogues improve to 10-13 in the West Coast League and are 2 1/2 games out of a playoff spot in the South. Medford handed Bend (18-10 WCL) its first opening-series loss this season.
Action continues tonight at Harry & David Field with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
