  • Medford fire crews prevented a second-story deck fire from spreading into a home's interior at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
    There were no injuries.
Four engines and 14 firefighters from Medford Fire-Rescue responded to a house fire in the 1000 block of Papago Drive, where an exterior deck was burning.
Firefighters forced entry and found a single male occupant asleep. He was able to leave the home safely.
Fire crews had the blaze under control within three minutes, preventing it from spreading inside the house.
The deck and side of the home were damaged.
"We were able to put that out fairly quickly," said Medford Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Ken Goodson.
The cause is still under investigation, with lights on the ground floor being suspected as the start point, Goodson said.
