Helen Doody, 89, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Rogue Valley Manor.

She was born April 3,1924 in New York City to William and Margaret Hanley. Helen received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Fordham University in 1944. She was president of both her junior and senior class and also crowned queen of her college. She went on to teach elementary education for 30 years in New York and New Jersey. Teaching 2nd grade children was her passion and she was one of the best. She met her husband at church and married Jeremiah Doody in 1945 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. After being married, Helen and her husband lived in New York City until 1966 before moving to New Jersey.

Helen moved to Medford, Ore. in 1996. She loved to swim and enjoyed her many visits to Lake of the Woods. She was an avid reader and was active in stock market clubs for many years. Helen was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Medford and Catholic Daughters. She also enjoyed volunteering at Providence Hospital. She was very engaged in outside activities and loved to travel, but her main passion was being with her family.

Helen is survived by her four children, Jeri Olson, Dennis Doody (Marita), Helen Ashenfelter (Tucker), and John Doody (Wendy); 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Muriel Cullen and Virginia O'Connell, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held to honor Helen and a life well lived Friday, August 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church.
