With family at his side, John Benjamin DeManby passed quietly in the late afternoon of June 29, 2013. He was 85 years old.
Born April 28, 1928, his life started in Portland, Ore. He was raised there by "Ms. Emerson," and at the age of 17, started working on the "tugs." It was in Portland that he met his wife of 61 years, Donna, who preceded him in death in 2011. They were married September 9, 1950 and had three boys, Vince (Linda), Brent (Tana), and John (Cheri) who in turn gave him six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was very proud of his family.
After his marriage, John moved his wife to Medford, Ore. in 1953. He supported his family by owning and operating various well-known taverns throughout the Rogue Valley, including Otto's, the "21 Club", and last, but not least, the J-Ville Tavern, which he owned the longest, 33 years.
The family would like to thank, once again, Donna Burgdorf, of Burgdorf Adult Foster Care Home and staff for their exceptional and never-ending care and compassion for both our parents. They made the end of life so comfortable and we will forever hold them in our hearts.
Our thanks and gratitude also go to Dr. Sander and the Hematology Oncology Associates.
Dad - We know you are with Mom again and that gives us comfort as we grieve your passing. We love you very much and will see you and Mom again, we know. Thank you for your unconditional love and guidance while on this earth.
