  • Gems use nine-run frame to rout Rogues

  • KLAMATH FALLS — The Klamath Falls Gems took an early 4-0 lead, then put away the Medford Rogues with nine runs in the sixth inning of a 14-2 West Coast League baseball victory Monday at Kiger Stadium.

  • KLAMATH FALLS — The Klamath Falls Gems took an early 4-0 lead, then put away the Medford Rogues with nine runs in the sixth inning of a 14-2 West Coast League baseball victory Monday at Kiger Stadium.
    Starter Jamie Flynn (0-1) was tagged with the loss for the Rogues (11-15 WCL). He he allowed five runs — four earned — on six hits.
    Rogues relievers Christian Morrison, Chase Tokunaga and Chad Hockin were victims of the Gems' big inning, which was keyed by a two-run single by the Gems' L.J. Brewster.
    Kevin Davidson, Jake Whisler, A.J. Balta and Ryan Teel all had a pair of hits for the Rogues. Whisler and Ray McIntire each drove in a run for the Rogues, who play Klamath Falls again tonight.
    The Gems' Nick Sabo improved to 4-0 on the mound. He allowed one earned run in eight innings on eight hits and fanned four. Cody Hough went 3-for-4 with three runs and a pair of RBIs.

    SOUTH MEDFORD 13-18, ASHLAND 1-6 — At Ashland, South Medford had six hits and took advantage of three walks while sending 14 batters to the plate in a 10-run sixth inning to pull away in Game 2 and clinch the Area 4 sweep at North Mountain Park.
    Tyler Pearson had three hits and Austin White two hits and two RBIs to lead South in the second game. For Ashland, Nick Sanderson was 2-for-4 with a three-run double and Jose Perez 2-for-4 with a two-run single.
    In the opener, the Colts jumped out to a 9-0 lead through two innings and finished the game in five innings by the 10-run mercy rule. Brandon Lupton was 3-for-4, while White, Ryan Carle and Jake Perry had two hits apiece for South. Colts' pitcher Caleb Newman surrendered four hits and struck out four in five innings.
    Ashland is 1-16.
