Jacome suffers first loss, Rogues fall to Elks

Rogues ace Justin Jacome went six solid innings but the Medford bats couldn't provide enough backup as the Bend Elks won 3-1, taking the second of a three-game series at Harry & David Field on Monday.

After Corey Wynant plated Parker Miles on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to give the Rogues (12-18) a 1-0 advantage, the Elks scored all they would need in the sixth on Derek Dixon's RBI groundout and Tyler Servais' run-scoring single.

The Elks (21-12 WCL) tacked on another run for insurance in the eighth on Cullen O'Dwyer's single to center field that bolstered Bend's margin to 3-1.

Miles and Joe Chavez both had two of the Rogues' seven hits.

Despite taking the loss, Jacome (1-1), continued his stellar season since arriving in Medford for his first start on June 25. In three games the 6-foot-6, 195-pound freshman from UC Santa Barbara has pitched 20 2/3 innings, allowing only two earned runsto go with 20 and is yet to issue a walk.

For Bend, Eric Melbostead moved to 2-0 on the year and Tanner Ring picked up his fifth save.

The Rogues finish the three-game set today in Bend before heading to Wenatchee to play the WCL defending champion AppleSox.

MEDFORD MUSTANGS 7, KLAMATH FALLS 2 — Isaiah Luzny tossed a complete game three-hitter and Austin Zavala's bases-clearing double in the second inning gave Medford all it would need to derail the Klamath Falls Senior Babe Ruth team at Harry & David Field.

Luzny allowed two unearned runs in the first inning before going on a stretch where he retired 13 consecutive batters. The streak broke when he issued a walk to open the seventh but finished up by sitting down the final nine. He walked two and fanned eight.

Zavala drove in three of the Mustangs' four second-inning runs. Taylor Raff, Bryan Rogan and Daniel Seus all went 2-for-3 and drove in a run for the Mustangs (20-11).
