Davidson helps Rogues clinch series

His four-RBI effort lifts Medford past Bend Elks

BEND — The Medford Rogues took their second straight series from the Bend Elks with a 10-4 win at Vince Genna Stadium on Friday.

A four-RBI performance by designated hitter Kevin Davidson and a solid outing by left-handed pitcher Mac Acker led the way for the Rogues, who took the season series from Bend four games to two.

An RBI double by Davidson in the first inning gave the Rogues a lead they would not relinquish. Third baseman Jerad Casper then scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0 after a half inning.

Bend starter Hunter Raley lasted only one-third of an inning before giving way to Kevin Hamman, who gave up three earned runs in a second inning that featured a two-run single from Davidson.

In the third, the Rogues continued to pile up runs, loading the bases with nobody out on a double by Caleb Palensky, a single by former North Medford standout Colin Sowers that chased Hamman, and a walk to Danny McNabb by Bend reliever Tyler Painton. A two-run double by shortstop Joe Chavez made it 8-1 Rogues, and sacrifice flies by Smith and Davidson made it 10-1 through two and a half innings.

Medford (13-7) was led by four players with multiple hits in the 14-hit attack. Davidson had three hits while Smith, A.J. Balta, Chavez and Sowers added two hits apiece.

Rogues starter Mac Acker (3-3) was solid throughout his six-inning start, scattering four hits and two runs while striking out five. Jerad Casper came in to pitch the seventh and struck out the side.

The Rogues are now five games out of a playoff spot in the WCL South with 24 league games to play.

The Rogues open a three-game series today at Wenatchee.
