Police say an Eagle Point couple has died and two others who were apparently family members were hospitalized following a single vehicle roll-over crash Sunday near Winnemucca, Nev.
According to the Nevada Department of Public Safety — Highway Patrol Division, Sunday afternoon at around 3:30, a 2005 Chevy Avalanche pickup was northbound on state highway 140 when the vehicle went off the edge of the highway and struck a road marker. Investigators say the 16-year-old driver swerved the Chevy to the left, causing the vehicle to slide sideways and overturn. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels in the desert.
The accident killed 49-year-old Kendall May and Rebecca May, 46. Officers said Kendall May was wearing his seatbelt but Rebecca May was wearing hers incorrectly and was ejected from the vehicle.
The two teenagers on board, 19-year-old Melissa May and the 16-year-old — who was not identified — were flown to Renown Hospital in Reno, Nev., with serious injuries. Both teenagers were reported to have been wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. (Correction: The spelling of Melissa May's name has been corrected.)
