  • CENTRAL POINT — Central Point rapped 36 hits en route to a pair of American Legion A Area 4 five-inning victories over the Ashland Pilots at Anhorn Field Tuesday.

  • CENTRAL POINT — Central Point rapped 36 hits en route to a pair of American Legion A Area 4 five-inning victories over the Ashland Pilots at Anhorn Field Tuesday.
    The Comets defeated the Pilots, 16-3 and 19-0.
    In the opener, Caine Smith hit three doubles to pace the Comets' 13-hit attack and Taylor Tibbets pitched a complete game and collected two hits.
    Tyler Aplin, Ty Plankenhorn and Tanner Ryerson also had two hits each for the Comets (25-7, 10-2 Area 4).
    For Ashland (1-22), Vince Cammarota went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
    In Game 2, Joey Caballero and Aplin combined for a three-hit shutout. Caballero surrendered two hits in four innings with four strikeouts and three walks.
    Paul Turner, Tibbets and Brady Roland had three hits apiece for Central Point. Ty Fox added two doubles and four RBIs for the Comets.
    Central Point will host South Medford in a key Area 4 doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. today.

    KLAMATH FALLS 5-5, MEDFORD MUSTANGS 3-15 — At Klamath Falls, Charlie Walker homered in the first game and had two hits in the nightcap as the Medford Mustangs salvaged a nonleague split against the Senior Babe Ruth host at Kiger Stadium
    Walker's two-run homer in the sixth inning of Game 1 tied the scored 3-all, but two Medford errors led to two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning for Klamath Falls.
    Carter Glick (4-1) pitched well for the Mustangs, allowing just four hits and struck out five, but suffered his first loss of the season.
    Eric Carlson had two hits and scored one run for Medford (22-15), which hosts Wilson at 3 p.m. today at Harry & David Field.
    In Game 2, Jared Evans collected two hits, had three RBIs and scored twice to pace the Mustangs' offense.
    Medford bunched together five hits and scored five runs in the third inning to take a 9-1 lead. Taylor Raff doubled to open the frame and Bryce Rogan provided the big blow with a bases-loaded clearing double.
