Champion Raceway to host children's racing competition

Champion Raceway will host a drag racing contest for children on Friday.

Participants can bring their electric cars and race on the 60-foot course in the Power Wheel class. Three groups will run: 2 to 5, 6 to 8 and 9 to 12.

The winner of each class will get a trophy and all participants will receive a ribbon.

Each motor must be a maximum of 18 volts and each entrant must wear a helmet (bike helmets will be accepted).

Adults may also race modifications.

Also on the program is the regular Friday night street legal/test and tune.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and time trials begin at 5:30 p.m. The children's Power Wheel competition start at 6 p.m. General admission is $8 per person or $25 per car load.

The cost is $28 to run in the street legal/test and tune and $10 for the Power Wheel class.

The raceway is located at 6900 Kershaw Rd.

Medford National squad wins district; hosting car wash

The Medford National Little League 9-10 All-Star baseball team won the District 8 championship in Gold Hill on July 7.

The local squad defeated Del Norte Little League 11-1 in the title game.

Medford National Little League will next play in the 9-10 state tournament beginning July 27 in Salem.

The team is hosting a car wash to raise funds for the trip on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Outback Steakhouse in Medford.
