South sweeps North in Area 4 twin bill

The South Medford Colts American Legion A baseball team swept North Medford in Area 4 play at North Medford High on Saturday.

The Colts pulled out the opener, 5-4 in 11 innings, before rallying to win 8-5 in the nightcap.

Due to field unavailability at South Medford High, the Colts played as the home team despite playing at the Mavericks' home site.

With Game 1 tied at 4 in the bottom of the 11th inning, Eric Wallan's fielder's choice brought home Jimmy Sporer.

Sporer finished with three hits and two runs scored, while Brandon Lupton, Cody Coggins and Trevor Meyer each had two hits for South.

South starter Caleb Newman allowed three runs and four hits and struck out six before being replaced in the seventh inning by Justin James.

In Game 2, South (32-6, 12-4 Area 4) trailed 5-1 before making a rally.

Tyler Pearson finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Sporer had two hits and three runs and Nate Brammer recorded two hits and an RBI.

In the sixth inning, Brammer's single tied the game and Meyer's ensuing hit put the Colts up for good.

For North (31-13-1, 11-5 Area 4), Josh Berman was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Christian Gillis added two hits.
