A state legislator from Central Point confirmed this morning that he is throwing his hat in the ring for the 2014 Oregon governor's race.
Rep. Dennis Richardson (R - Central Point), confirmed his gubernatorial run at a news conference held this morning at the War Memorial in Don Jones Park, Central Point. He plans to hold additional conferences in Portland, Eugene, and Bend.
Richardson, 63, has served on several positions in the state legislature, including co-chairman of the Ways & Means Committee, which makes budget recommendations for state-supported services and programs. He was also the Oregon State Republican Party's treasurer from 1999 to 2003.
An email from Richardson announcing the press conference said the state's current leadership is determined to "protect the 'coalition of the status quo.'"
"...It's up to us to develop our own plan to restore our economy, reform our schools and renew our natural resource policies," the email said.
