    Lithia Park nature walks
    Sundays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays: Trained volunteer naturalists from Ashland Parks & Recreation lead free, easy, 1.5-hour nature walks through Lithia Park. Topics include trees, flowers, birds, climate, water, geology and the history of the park. Meet at the park entrance, across from the Plaza in Ashland. Registration is not required.

    Southern Oregon Nordic Club
    Saturday, Aug. 10: Hike to Campbell Lake in the Marble Mountain Wilderness in Siskiyou County, Calif. The trailhead is about a 90-minute drive from Ashland. The group will explore Campbell and Cliff lakes, and those who want a more strenuous hike can continue to Summit Lake.     Every Sunday: Cycle Analysis, 535 N. Fifth St., in Jacksonville hosts a two- to three-hour road ride at 8 a.m. All fitness levels welcome.     Every Tuesday and Thursday: Mountain-bike rides organized by the crew at Ashland Cycle Sport, 191 Oak St., Ashland. Meet at the Plaza in Ashland at 6:30 p.m. Riders of all abilities are welcome on the Tuesday ride. The Thursday ride is usually longer (two to two-and-a-half hours) and faster paced.     Every Wednesday: Starting at 6 p.m., Cycle Analysis, 535 N. Fifth St., hosts a two-hour mountain-bike ride on either the Britt trails in Jacksonville or nearby Johns Peak, which has almost 200 miles of trails.     Klamath Bird Observatory
    Saturday, Aug. 3: KBO board member and bird-walk leader Harry Fuller will lead an outing to Howard Prairie Lake to look for nesting sandhill cranes and western bluebirds. Group will also search for Cassin's vireo, Williamson's sapsucker, green-tailed towhee, MacGillivray's warbler and other mountain nesting birds.     Rogue Valley Audubon Society
    Wednesday, Aug. 7: First Wednesday bird walk at Denman Wildlife Area in White City begins at 8:30 a.m. The walk lasts about three hours and covers about three miles. Meet at the Agate Road entrance gate to the WMA by 8:25 a.m. This is an ongoing citizen-science project to record the numbers of different species observed by walk participants and enter the data in the Cornell Ornithological Laboratory's e-bird database. You don't need to be an experienced birder to join in, but taking part will help you become one. The walk coordinator is Murray Orr.     North Mountain Park
    Saturday, Aug. 13: Local birding experts lead bird walks from 8 to 9 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month through summer at North Mountain Park, 620 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland.     Fly-casting instruction
    Mondays through Sept. 30: Rogue Flyfishers will offer free casting instruction every Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hedrick Middle School, 1502 E. Jackson St., Medford. All skill levels invited.
