    Joy Proper will be ordained at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 675 Black Oak Drive, Medford. Bishop Dave Brauer-Riecke of the Oregon Synod will preside.
    Her ordination was originally scheduled to take place at her home congregation of Zion Lutheran Church, but the sanctuary will not be usable for a minimum of three months following a July 5 fire.
    Proper is a 1997 graduate of North Medford High School and a 2001 College of Idaho graduate. She graduated from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago in 2012 and will serve at The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church outside Eugene.
    The offering from the ordination will go toward the restoration of Zion Lutheran Church.
    First Presbyterian Church of Central Point will hold a "Praise in the Park" event from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Pfaff Park band shell in Central Point.
    Multiple Christian praise bands will perform at the free concert, and donations for expenses will be accepted. Call 541-951-4967.
    Alena Ruggerio, Southern Oregon University associate professor in the Department of Communication, will give a sermon at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 28, at Medford Congregational United Church of Christ, 1801 E. Jackson St. The sermon, titled "A Full Measure of Manna," will touch on topics related to rhetoric, religion and feminism. Call 541-772-8860.
    The Rev. Rob Wheeler will give a lesson on "Six Golden Minutes" at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 28, at Christ Unity Church, 540 N. Holly St., Medford.
    A silent unity prayer service will be held Wednesday, July 31, at the church. A metaphysical bible discussion will follow at 11:30.

    Unity in Ashland will host author Maurice L. Monette from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at the Havurah, 185 N. Mountain Ave., for a reading and signing of his book, "Confessions of a Gay Married Priest: A Spiritual Journey."
    Monette belonged to a Roman Catholic order of priests for 30 years. He now lives in Mexico with his husband of 24 years and has a home in Ashland. Call 541-488-9220.
