Joe Frank Dobson passed away at his home Monday, July 22, 2013, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. After high school Joe joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Western Pacific on the aircraft carriers USS Ticonderoga, USS Shangri-La, and the USS Midway.
Joe married his high school sweetheart, Pat Gentles, and they were blessed to have just celebrated their 54th anniversary.
Joe was a truck driver for Double Dee Lumber for 16 years, then drove for Timber Products and RB Brownes Trucking as an owner-operator prior to his retirement.
Joe was a lifetime member of Medford Masonic Lodge #103. He coached at Central Point Little League and worked for many years as Dad Advisor of Medford Order of DeMolay, working with the Masonic youth groups of the valley.
Joe so loved and was so very proud of all his children and grandchildren. His best times were spent with his family, camping, and riding his Harley. He loved his Corvette and had many fun trips and good times with all his friends in the Southern Oregon Corvette Club.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; sons, Jim (Kim) Dobson and Tom (Lisa) Dobson; grandchildren, Michael (Keri) Goergen, Kyle Dobson, Matthew (Jamee) Goergen, Ryan (Laura) Dobson, Eric (Adriene) Goergen, Nick Dobson, and Megan Dobson (who Papa said was the best birthday present he ever received as she was born on his birthday). He also leaves six adorable great-grandchildren, Jack, Jonah, Eli, Ollie, Eva and Beau; sisters, Fran (Tom) White and Eula (Bill) Lowther; brother, John Dobson; and many nieces and nephews.
Our family has been blessed to have Papa Joe be a part of our lives. He was loving, gentle, kind, and an inspiration to all of us. We will miss him forever.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Conger~Morris Central Point Chapel. Jerry Weaver of Heritage Christian Fellowship will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Candlelighters for Children with Cancer.
