Thomas J. Street, 68, of Grants Pass, Ore., passed at his home Wednesday, July 3, 2013, after losing his short battle with metastatic melanoma, with his wife, daughter, and granddaughter at his side. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Florence Street; and brothers, Mike and Jack Street.
Tom was born November 18, 1944 in Grundy Center, Iowa. He was raised in Gladbrook, Iowa and graduated from Gladbrook High in 1963. From 1966 to 1968, he was called to serve his country with the U.S. Army as a Big Red 1, in Vietnam. Just before he was to come home he had gotten severely injured from a mortar blast which caused him to spend a year in a V.A. hospital at which time he received a medical honorable discharge.
Tom moved to Oregon in 1970 and made it his home. On January 31, 1991 he married his wife Peggy and gained a family of two daughters, Cindy and Paula, a grandson Shane, and later two more grandchildren, Jacie and Jared.
Tom enjoyed football, traveling, gardening, and spending time with his family of which he liked to play tricks on constantly.
In June, 2013 Tom was going to attend his 50 year class reunion in Iowa, but due to his declining health he was unable to go, however several of the class of 28 attending, most of whom attended kindergarten through 12th grade as a group, called him to reminisce and wish him well.
Tom is survived by his wife, Peggy Street of Grants Pass, Ore.; his children, Paula and Jaymie Overton of Ore., and Cindy Standiford of Wash.; grandchildren, Shane Beeman of Wash., Jacie Overton, of Ore., and Jared Mapes, of Wash.; brother, Steve (Shayla) of Iowa; sisters, Marge (Don) of Iowa and Judy (Adam) of Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many close friends.
We will all miss his beautiful smile, sparking eyes, and sense of humor.
There are no funeral services at this time. In lieu of flowers or cards the family asks that donations be made to local Hospice.
