The following events have been canceled because of poor air quality.
Tonight's Oregon Shakespeare Festival performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is canceled.
The festival has added two performances of "King Lear" in the Thomas Theatre at 8 pm. Sunday, Aug. 4., and Tuesday, Aug. 6. Patrons can purchase tickets or exchange current tickets for either of these shows by calling the Box Office at 800-219-8161 or 541-482-4331.
Several Medford Parks and Recreation programs and facilities are closed for the day. They include the Jackson Aquatic Center, Park-n-Play Program, adult sand volleyball league, all outdoor youth sports camps, all outdoor adult sports league, and the Commons Lunchtime Concert.
Outdoor activities at the Crater Rock Museum's kids day camp have been canceled, but the children have been moved inside, and staff are hosting indoor activities.
All Junior Giants baseball and T-ball games scheduled for today have been canceled. The Junior Giants teams, a free Medford Parks and Recreation Department program supported by the San Francisco Giants Community Fund, include kids ages 5 through 13. The ASA Western National Softball tournament is making a major adjustment to limit the games to one-hour in length. The tournament staff is making adjustments to the brackets in order to accommodate for this change and to possibly shorten the entire tournament.
The City of Central Point will be cancelling its Friday Night Festival: Music and Movies in the Park due to smoke. They will reschedule the movie “Hotel Transylvania” and the band “Bustin' Out,” to August 23. The rescheduled event will be held at Twin Creeks Park in Central Point. Music will be from 6 to 8 p.m., and the movie starts at dusk.
Parks officials said they will evaluate daily whether activities can continue and will notify media about cancellations.
The Josephine County Fairgrounds Market will be closed today because of the heavy smoke.
Ashland's East Main Band has canceled a 6 p.m. Friday show at Del Rio Winery in Gold Hill. The show was part of the winery's summer concert series and may be rescheduled later, organizers said.
Troon Vineyard's anniversary barbecue set for Saturday afternoon at the vineyard, 1475 Kubli Road, Grants Pass, has been called off. The indoor tasting room will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with anniversary specials available.
The Ashland City Band has canceled its performance today in Lithia Park's Butler Band Shell.
The City of Ashland has closed Daniel Meyer Pool for today. The pool will make decisions on whether to close the pool at future dates on a day-to-day basis.
The Talent's Evening Market, originally scheduled for Friday, has been canceled.
The Free Nia 30th Birthday Celebration in Ashland has been canceled for Friday.
Jackson County Fire District 3's Fill the Boot fundraiser has been canceled from its original Saturday, Aug. 3 date. A new date has yet to be determined.
The One Day-Fun Day event at the Medford Adventist Church, originally slated for Sunday, Aug. 4, has been canceled.
The Ashland Food Co-op posted on Facebook that its First Friday wine tasting on Aug. 1 is canceled.
Redemption Run 5K and 10K runs set for EdenVale Winery on Saturday now will be a walk in the Rogue Valley Mall. Registration is at 6:15 a.m.; walking starts at 7. Participants can walk as long as they want. There will be day-of-race sign-ups. Participants should go to Entrance 3, which faces Riverside Avenue on the mall's lower level. Cost is $25, and proceeds go to Medford's Redemption Ridge, a faith-based nonprofit organization that works with girls escaping the sex trade. A 6 p.m. dinner still will be held at EdenVale Winery.
