A Douglas County man dashed onto Interstate 5 Wednesday afternoon near Roseburg, running into the side of a Medford man's pickup truck before falling to the pavement and being run over by a car, Oregon State Police reported.
Everest James McDonald, 34, of Days Creek, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Witnesses told investigators that McDonald ran from the right freeway shoulder into the southbound lanes near mile 123 just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. He colliding with the passenger side door of a 2013 Ford F150 pickup driven south by Jared L. Fuhriman, 39, of Medford.
The impact knocked McDonald to the ground, where he was run over by a southbound 2003 Mazda passenger car driven by Aaron E. Estrada, 23, of Roseburg, police said.
Neither driver was injured.
Investigators worked at the scene for more than six hours Wednesday, although some lanes were open so traffic could get by, an OSP news release said. The investigation is ongoing.
