Sheriff's department seeks man suspected in knife attack

Jackson County Sheriff's deputies are looking for a man who allegedly tried to stab another man this morning in White City after the victim entered the suspect's campsite to strike up a casual conversation, a press release said.

Deputies responded to a 911 call at Highway 62 and Agate Road after the suspect, identified as William Whipple of Medford, reportedly grabbed a butcher knife and took a swing at the victim for entering his camp.

The victim was able to flee the scene without any injuries and called 911, police said.

Deputies searched the camp but were unable to locate Whipple, 39, police said in a press release.

Whipple is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and 180 pounds with long, black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information on Whipple's whereabouts is urged to contact the Jackson County Sheriff's Office Tip Line at 541-774-8333.
