Ronald E. Nelsen, 73, a longtime resident of White City, Ore. passed away at Rogue Regional Medical Center July 22, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. By his side was his loving wife, Betty and family. Ron was born July 29, 1939 in Bertha, Minn.
Ron had worked as a logger all over Oregon and Northern California for over 41 years running heavy-equipment. An avid sportsman, Ron enjoyed hunting and camping with his friends and family. He also enjoyed many years of going to NASCAR races to support his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt.
Ron enjoyed his garden and took great pride in producing the finest, ripest tomatoes every year. Ron and Betty enjoyed many drives and long walks up in the mountains to retrieve morel mushrooms. Ron could spot them a mile away!
Ron's sense of humor and kindness always made people feel at ease in his presence; his laughter and jokes could light up a room at any time.
Ron's loving nature surrounded his family; a man you could always count on and would put others first before himself.
Ron is survived by his wife of 17 years, Betty; six loving children: Gus, Vickie, Mark, Debbie, Bob, and Jim from previous marriages; two sisters; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. A dessert potluck will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Jim Nelson's ranch, 1555 Ball Road, Eagle Point, Ore. Officiating will be Pastor Shane Wallis.
