  • ROSEBURG — Gunnar Asher went 4-for-4 and pitched a three-hitter to help propel the Central Point baseball team past North Medford, 11-1 in six innings, in an American Legion A state tournament elimination game at Legion Field on Saturday.

  • ROSEBURG — Gunnar Asher went 4-for-4 and pitched a three-hitter to help propel the Central Point baseball team past North Medford, 11-1 in six innings, in an American Legion A state tournament elimination game at Legion Field on Saturday.
    The Comets must beat Roseburg Pepsi twice today to capture the state crown and advance to regionals, which will be in Wheatland, Wyo. The two squads square off at noon and, if necessary, again at 4 p.m.
    Asher, who will be a junior at Crater, struck out one and did not allow a walk. He added three runs scored and an RBI.
    Avery Martin went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run and Ty Plankenhorn 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run for Central Point (33-13).
    North Medford (37-15-1) was held scoreless after the first inning.

    ROSEBURG PEPSI 12, GRANTS PASS 2, 6 inn. — At Roseburg, the Grants Pass Miners were eliminated from the American Legion Class A state tournament.
    McKennan Bennett drove in a run and was 1-for-3 with a double for Grants Pass, which made six errors. Mike Hultz scored on a throwing error in the first inning.

    BLACK BEARS 6, ROGUES 1 — At Longview, Wash., the Medford Rogues had their seven-game winning streak snapped.
    Spencer Smith's RBI fielder's choice brought home Niko Pacheco in the third inning, drawing Medford to within a run. The Rogues were shut out after that.
    Brandon Boyle earned the win after allowing three hits, three walks and one run and striking out five in six innings.
    Medford (27-23) plays Cowlitz (22-25) again at 5:05 p.m. today.
