  • Art du Jour Gallery will hold a celebration of its recent renovation and expansion from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at 213 E. Main St., Medford.
    The cooperative gallery will feature displays of artwork by the 22 artist members, and the event will include music by harpist Mary Vannice and hors d'oevres.

    Southern Oregon University will kick off its Institute for New Writing with a series of free panel discussions, readings and social events next week.
    The activities will be held Monday-Saturday, Aug. 12-17.
    The week starts with Noir Night, from 10 p.m. to midnight at Omar's, 1380 Siskiyou Blvd. The event will feature "flash readings," jazz and a cash bar. Attendance is free.
    On Aug. 13-15, panels of institute faculty and a visiting writer will be held at Hannon Library. Each panel will start at 2:15 p.m. daily. At 7 p.m. each day, the presenters will perform readings in the SOU Schneider Museum of Art.
    A dance party and open mic will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday, Aug. 16, at Club 66, 1951 Ashland St. The final event, the "INWApalooza" literary festival, will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.
