Restaurant inspections

Jackson County health inspectors evaluated 62 restaurants in July. Scores are published in the Mail Tribune.

Howard Prairie Store & Restaurant, Ashland, failed its July 1 semiannual inspection, scoring 69 points.

Violations of priority and priority foundation items included a bandage on a worker's hand unprotected by a glove, a worker handling soiled utensils without washing hands before touching work surfaces, a worker's unapproved beverage container in use, contents of the walk-in (meats, cheeses, dairy, soups, etc.) maintained at the unsafe temperature of 52 degrees since the previous day, cooked chicken in service past the one-week deadline for use, ham slices and dairy containers lacking date marks and the lack of sanitizing cloths at the prep line's cutting boards.

After posting a sticker at its entrance indicating failure to comply, the restaurant passed a reinspection July 8, when inspectors logged its perfect score for priority and priority foundation items but noted several scored cutting boards and a microwave's soiled interior.

The restaurant and store are managed by the Mt. Ashland Association under an agreement with Jackson County approved by commissioners in April.
