  • A small fire started late Wednesday morning in an abandoned lumber yard in Central Point, fire officials said.
Jackson County Fire District No. 3 crew members were driving past the building at 224 Amy St. at 11:24 a.m. when they saw smoke.
District 3 and Medford Fire-Rescue responded to the small structure fire at the vacant building, which property records show used to be Ashenberner Lumber Co.
District 3 brought three engines and Medford brought one unit to the scene.
District 3 Battalion Chief Rod Edwards said the fire started in junk in a corner of a dilapidated building and the damage was minimal. There was no electricity to the building, he said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, although fire officials said they do not suspect arson.
