Breakfast, brunch and lunch are the high points at this family-run cafe in Central Point. Named after the two palm trees sitting adjacent to its front windows, The Palms Cafe offers American-style dishes that appeal to so many denizens of the Rogue Valley.
Managed by proprietor Bobbi Misner, the breakfast and lunch spot opened in late 2011 at 501 S. Front St., Central Point, in the former site of El Albinil Mexican restaurant.

Misner and her children moved to the Rogue Valley from Tonopah, Nev., where she owned a similar establishment.
Out on a long errand early on a Sunday afternoon, I dashed into the cafe for something quick to eat. I was thinking of a burger before I saw the long list of classic sandwiches on the menu.
French dip, Philly, BLT Monte Cristo, grilled cheese, tuna or turkey melts, they're all there, along with an array of hand-pressed Angus beef burgers. And they're all served with either fries, potato salad or cole slaw. I fancied the Club Sandwich ($8.49) and a pile of french fries. My order was served in a jiffy, with the fries still piping hot. Even better, Misner had fry sauce on hand when I asked for it.
Later in the week, I coerced a co-worker to join me for lunch at The Palms. I tried the grilled chicken salad ($8.99), and he ordered one of the burgers ($7.99 to $9.99). There were some nice touches, such as fresh micro-greens in my salad and the burger's hand-pressed beef patty.
Yet the meals disappointed us. The skimpy amount of chicken on the salad was not fresh. I'd happily wait for something freshly grilled. And there was an equally skimpy amount of fries served with the burger.
All the same, I'll probably return for an omelette or some other comfort food on the breakfast menu.
