Virgil M. Scott, 80, of Gold Hill, Ore., passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Virgil was born in Kiva, Mich. May 12, 1933, and spent his youth living in the Upper Peninsula.

On July 10, 1953 he married the love of his life, Inez M. Luke, and moved out west to Coos Bay, Ore. where he worked in the lumber industry and started a family. In 1962, he moved to the Rogue Valley area to pursue employment. For the next 25 years he worked in the Medford area and was well known for his incredible feats of strength and labor ability in the field of construction. He was employed on a number of major construction projects in the valley including Providence Hospital, R.V.M.C., Highway 140, and the Rogue Valley Mall. He spent the final years of his career working for Safway Scaffolding, initially as a concrete cutter and then as company foreman.

Virgil enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, and tinkering around his property. He had an unending love for the ocean and spent many an hour combing the beaches and sitting by the surf. His greatest joy was sharing his life and making memories with Inez during their 60 years of marriage. He was a member of the Medford Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Virgil is survived by his wife; sons, Dan, Bryan, and Kevin; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his sisters, Lois Gaskill of Friday Harbor, Wash., Yvonne Swenson of Trenary, Mich., and Phyllis Brainard of Central Point, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marvel; brother, Wallace; sister, Myrna; and infant son, Bradley.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Perl Funeral Home and Siskiyou Memorial Park, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford.
