Russell Dale Walters, 79, of Grants Pass, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center after a year-long battle with esophageal cancer.
Russell was born November 9, 1933 in Jackson, Calif. to Jack and Bonnie (Alexander) Walters. He grew up inBM as a machinist. In 1951 he married Betty Smith and together had four children, moving to Oregon in 1968 to raise their family. In 1972 Russell purchased the R-Haus Restaurant in Grants Pass and in 1978 purchased the Mon Desir in Central Point and was very successful in both endeavors. In 1999 he retired. After the death of his first wife, he later met and married Roberta Striplin in 2003 and they enjoyed gardening and trips to Hawaii.
Russell was a member of Rotary and the Elks.
Russell is survived by his wife, Roberta Walters; son, Daniel (Carol) Walters; daughter, Debra (Chuck) McPherson; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Tonya Striplin; and stepson, Max Striplin. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Melinda and Cindy; his first wife, Betty; three brothers; and one sister.
A celebration of life will be held 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday September 1, 2013, at R-Haus, 2140 Rogue River Hwy, Grants Pass, OR. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors ae in charge of arrangements.
