Robert Joseph Rook, son, brother, father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather, took his last breath the afternoon of Friday, June 28, 2013 at his home in Eagle Point, Ore. surrounded by family.
Born October 30, 1921, the son of George L. and Ada (Hamilton) Rook in Prairie Hill, Miss., Robert was one of the youngest of 15 children.
Not long after leaving home at a young age, Robert enlisted in the Merchant Marines October 15, 1942 and served his time in WWII as Chief Stewart. Honorably discharged in August of 1945, Robert soon after took his talents and became a well-known chef in the world of culinary cuisine. In his day, while residing in California, he was considered one of the top 10 chefs on the west coast. His chosen career path served him well, he truly enjoyed cooking for others and sharing stories of days passed. Robert also loved to hunt, fish, and go camping with the family.
In September of 1971, Robert married Margaret J. (Keith) Curry. Together they had a large family, (his, hers and theirs), Bobby LaBlanc of So. Calif., Mike Rook of Northern Calif., Bonnie Kay Theabolt of Enterprise, Ore., Connie Jean Curry of Coquille, Ore., Polly RC Walker of Portland, Ore., Susan Christine Curry Deckard of Rogue River, Ore., Scott Douglas Curry of Kennewick, Wash., and Michael J. Rook of Richland, Wash. Additional loving survivors include 16 grandchildren, Rebecca Henry, Rachel Black, Joseph Miller, Mary Elizabeth Nelson, Carrie Bradley, Kelly Bradley, Laura (Winslow) Sage, Emily Winslow, Bob Winslow, Caleb Francis, William Deckard, and Cody Curry; 14 great-grandchildren; his twin sister, Roberta Rogers and her daughter, Susan Rogers.
A private service celebrating Robert's life will be held. No gifts or flowers please! Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Robert to Veteran's of America.
