A small airplane bound for Idaho from the Medford airport lost power a few minutes after takeoff Friday morning but was able to land smoothly in a field northwest of Mount McLoughlin.
The plane did not sustain any damage in the emergency landing, and the pilot was not hurt.
"Everything's as good as it could go," said Jeff Gorman, chief for the Butte Falls Fire Department. "He did well."
The pilot, a Medford resident, landed the plane at about 6:48 a.m. in a field off the 300 block of Rancheria Road. He declined comment on the incident.
Auto racing fans will have a chance to see the car driven by Sam Hornish Jr. in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
The No. 12 Mustang and Alliance Truck Parts racing team will be in Medford from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Pacific Truck Centers, 2343 Biddle Road, Medford.
Racing fans can have their pictures taken with the car, win prizes and eat a pulled-pork barbecue lunch.
